Hey everyone, welcome back to the blog!
Today we’re talking about something that gets overlooked way too often – golf club bathrooms. I know what you’re thinking. Bathrooms? Really? But trust me, as someone who’s designed dozens of spaces for country clubs, I can tell you these rooms make a huge impression on members and guests.
I’ve toured so many golf clubs over the years, and you wouldn’t believe how many gorgeous facilities fall flat when you step into their outdated bathrooms. It’s like they spent all their budget on the course and forgot people actually need to use the restroom!
So I’m sharing my top 10 bathroom upgrades that will absolutely transform your club’s facilities. These tips come straight from my experience working with golf clubs across the country – things that members notice and appreciate. Let’s dive into these game-changing upgrades!
Golf Bathroom That Will Impress Members & Guests
When golfers walk into your club’s bathroom, they should feel the same level of luxury and attention to detail they experience on your fairways. A great golf club bathroom blends functionality with style – it’s practical for someone coming in from 18 holes but also impressive enough to make new guests think, “Wow, this place really cares about every detail.”
The best part? You don’t need to gut the entire space. Strategic upgrades in the right places can completely transform the look and feel without requiring a total renovation. I’ve helped clubs on tight budgets achieve amazing results by focusing on these key areas.
Let’s look at the 10 upgrades that make the biggest impact in golf club bathrooms:
Elegant Vanity and Countertops
Nothing elevates a golf club bathroom faster than a beautiful vanity and countertop. This is literally the centerpiece of the whole room! In most clubs I’ve worked with, we’ve switched from boring builder-grade cabinets to custom vanities that really reflect the club’s character.
For countertops, natural stone is my absolute favorite. Granite and marble are classics, but I’m seeing more clubs use quartz now because it’s so durable and low-maintenance. At Pinewood Golf Club, we installed this gorgeous green-veined marble that subtly echoed their course colors – members still comment on it years later!
If you can’t replace the whole vanity, even just updating the hardware makes a huge difference. Those little brass or matte black handles cost maybe $5 each but look so much more expensive than the standard chrome pulls most clubs have.
One trick I love is adding a wooden or stone shelf above the vanity for extra storage ideas. This gives members a place for their personal items while washing up after a round. It’s practical and adds this nice architectural detail that makes the whole room feel more custom.
Modern Fixtures and Faucets
Fixtures and faucets are like jewelry for your bathroom. They’re smaller investments that make everything else look more expensive! In golf club bathrooms, I always recommend going slightly oversized on these elements – they get noticed.
Touchless faucets are a must nowadays. They’re not just a hygiene thing anymore – they feel luxurious and modern. We installed these beautiful brass ones at Oakridge Country Club, and they completely transformed their fairly standard vanity setup.
For shower fixtures, rainfall showerheads are what members expect now in upscale clubs. Pair them with handheld options and properly installed golf club shower pans that prevent any water leakage, and you’ve got a combination that feels like a spa experience. Your members will actually look forward to showering at the club after a long game!
I’m also a big fan of upgrading little things like robe hooks and towel bars. Instead of those flimsy chrome ones, try oil-rubbed bronze or brushed nickel versions that feel substantial when members touch them. These tiny details really communicate quality to your guests.
Improved Lighting Design
Lighting might be the most overlooked element in golf club bathrooms, but it makes the biggest difference in how people look and feel in the space. Bad lighting makes everyone look tired after their round – not what you want!
Layer your lighting sources instead of relying on those harsh overhead fluorescents most clubs have. Wall sconces at eye level are amazing for eliminating those unflattering shadows. I like to put them on either side of the mirrors where members check their appearance.
Under-cabinet lighting is another game-changer. We added soft LED strips under the vanities at Pebble Creek Golf Club, and it created this beautiful glow that makes the whole room feel more upscale. Plus, it works as a subtle nightlight for early morning tournaments.
Don’t forget about natural light! If your bathroom has windows, make the most of them with window treatments that maximize light while maintaining privacy. Frosted glass or textured window film lets in all that beautiful daylight without any privacy concerns.
High-Quality Flooring
Flooring takes a beating in golf club bathrooms. You’ve got people coming in with wet shoes, golf spikes, and all kinds of weather conditions, so this is one area where you absolutely can’t skimp on quality.
Large-format porcelain tiles are my go-to recommendation. They’re practically indestructible, and with fewer grout lines, they’re easier to keep clean. The technology for printing on these tiles has gotten so good – you can get gorgeous wood or stone looks without the maintenance headaches.
I’m also loving the hexagon tile trend for golf club bathrooms. We did a classic black and white hex pattern at Fairview Golf & Country Club, and it gave this fantastic vintage vibe that matched their 1920s clubhouse perfectly.
Heated floors are worth every penny in the shower and changing areas. Members remember and talk about these little luxuries! We installed them at Mountain Vista Golf Club, and the president told me it was the upgrade members mentioned most often in their satisfaction surveys.
Statement Mirrors
Mirrors do double duty in golf bathrooms – they’re functional for members freshening up, but they’re also amazing decorative opportunities that can make your space look twice as big.
Instead of those plain builder-grade rectangular large mirrors, try something with a beautiful frame or interesting shape. At Lakeshore Country Club, we installed these circular mirrors with brushed brass frames above each sink, and they instantly made the whole bathroom feel custom and high-end.
Backlit mirrors are another fantastic upgrade. They provide this even, flattering light that members appreciate when they’re checking their appearance after a round. Plus, they create this cool floating effect that adds depth to the whole room.
If your budget is tight, even just adding a frame to your existing mirrors makes a huge difference. We did this at Riverside Golf Club – just added these simple wooden frames painted to match their club colors, and it looked like a completely different bathroom.
Luxurious Shower and Toilet Stalls
Privacy and comfort in the shower panel and toilet areas are super important to members. Those flimsy metal dividers most clubs have feel cheap and uncomfortable.
Full-height dividers make such a difference in how premium the space feels. We installed beautiful walnut-veneer partitions at Eagle Point Golf Club that went from floor to ceiling. They were actually less expensive than you’d think, and they completely transformed the bathroom experience.
For shower stalls, frameless glass doors look so much more upscale than those metal-framed ones with the curtains. They’re easier to keep clean too, which your maintenance staff will appreciate.
Don’t forget about the toilet paper holders and hooks inside the stalls! These little details matter so much. We added these simple but substantial brushed nickel hooks in each stall at Pine Hills, and members constantly mentioned how nice it was to have a place to hang their jackets or towels.
Premium Toiletries and Amenities
The products you offer in your bathrooms say a lot about your club. This is an easy win that doesn’t require any construction at all!
Instead of those industrial soap dispensers mounted on the wall, try nice pump bottles with quality hand soap. At Meadowbrook Golf Club, we found these beautiful amber glass dispensers and filled them with a custom-scented soap that matched their club logo colors. Members loved it so much they asked where they could buy it for home!
A basket with necessities like hairspray, deodorant, and mouthwash makes members feel taken care of after their round. You can find nice containers to keep everything organized – no need for products to be sitting directly on the counter.
Hand lotion is non-negotiable, especially in golf bathrooms. Players’ hands get so dry out on the course. We found this amazing aloe-based lotion for Westwind Golf Club that wasn’t greasy, and members raved about it.
Don’t forget fresh hand towels instead of paper ones if you can manage the laundry. Nothing feels more luxurious than a soft cloth golf towel after washing your hands!
Locker and Dressing Area Enhancements
The locker and dressing areas connect directly to your bathroom experience, so they deserve some attention too.
Built-in seating makes such a difference for members changing before or after their round. We added these simple but comfortable benches with hidden shoe storage underneath at Hillcrest Golf Club, and they completely transformed how functional the space was.
Good mirrors are essential in dressing areas. Full-length options with good lighting help members make sure they look presentable before heading to the dining room after their game.
Charging stations for phones and smartwatches are becoming must-haves. We installed discrete outlets with USB ports inside some of the lockers at Greenview Country Club, and members constantly mentioned how thoughtful that feature was.
Don’t forget hooks and shelves for personal items! People have so much stuff with them nowadays – a place to set down a phone or hang a jacket makes the whole experience more comfortable.
Art and Decor Accents
Art is what transforms a bathroom from simply functional to memorable. This is your chance to reinforce your club’s personality and history.
Historic photos of your course are always winners. At Oakmont Golf Club, we framed black and white photos showing the course through the decades, and they became conversation starters among members.
Consider artwork that connects to golf but isn’t too obvious. We found these beautiful botanical prints of native grasses that grow on the course for Sandpiper Bay Golf Club – subtle but meaningful to the location.
Plants bring life to bathroom spaces! Orchids work beautifully in golf club bathrooms because they’re elegant and relatively low-maintenance. Just make sure you have enough natural light, or go with high-quality faux options.
Small sculptures or decorative objects on shelves or counters add personality without cluttering the space. We found these little bronze golf ball paperweights for River Valley Golf Course that added just the right touch of theme without being cheesy.
Smart Technology Integration
Technology in the bathroom might sound strange, but it’s becoming expected in premium golf clubs.
Bluetooth speakers built into the ceiling let members listen to music while they shower or get ready. We installed these at Mountain Creek Golf Club, and they were surprisingly affordable but made the space feel so much more modern.
Lighted mirrors with defoggers are game-changers. Nobody likes wiping down a foggy mirror after their shower, and these solve that problem completely.
Occupancy sensors for lighting save energy and impress guests with their convenience. The lights automatically come on when someone enters – it feels very high-end.
Digital shower controls let members set their perfect temperature. We installed these at Lakeview Country Club, and members loved being able to start their shower with the push of a button and have it be the perfect temperature immediately.
Conclusion
A great golf bathroom renovation doesn’t have to break the bank or require months of construction. By focusing on these ten key areas, you can create a space that truly impresses your members and guests while making their experience at your club more comfortable and enjoyable.
Remember that consistency is key – it’s better to make fewer, higher-quality upgrades than to spread your budget too thin across the entire space. Start with the elements members interact with most – vanities, fixtures, and lighting – then work your way through the other improvements as your budget allows.
The best part is seeing members’ reactions when they experience these upgrades for the first time. At every club where we’ve implemented these changes, membership satisfaction scores have increased dramatically. It turns out people really do notice and appreciate these details!
