A tall artificial palm tree can convert a boring space instantly is something quite true.

It creates an illusion of height, occupies vacant vertical spaces, and injects tranquillity and tropical vibes into spaces.

It is no surprise that 12-foot artificial palm trees have become an evergreen option for homeowners, event planners and commercial designers.

However, this big tree also contributes to its own problems.

A palm can appear awkward without the proper installation and styling technique, no matter how realistic it is.

Through this guide – you will learn to choose, install & style a 12-feet artificial palm tree like a pro.

Choosing the Right Artificial Palm Tree

Before purchasing there are a few important things to consider.

A room with a ceiling height of at least 13 to 14 feet is necessary for a 12 foot tree to look good and natural rather than cramped.

Apart from height, account for material quality. Premium artificial palm leaves are UV resistant and fade-proof.

There’s color variations and realistic fronds. The trunk must be solid and appear life-like, not hollow. Aspects with realistic details look better in your space for a prolonged time.

The most common 12-foot varieties come in varieties – the Areca palm (with full feathery fronds), Washingtonia palm (a more stout truck with bold fan-shaped leaves) and coconut palm (with a more dramatic silhouette).

Large online retailers often have the widest selection and most competitive prices.

You can even find an artificial tree plant factory in China that delivers high-quality faux trees worldwide at a fraction of cost.

It’s always worth visiting a store to check the item in-person before you buy something so big. Check out local home decor or artificial plant specialty stores.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

If you want to install a 12-foot tree, you have to be patient. But the job is quite simple if you keep to the instructions below.

Unboxing and inspecting the tree

Unpack the tree with care. Lay out all parts in a well-lit and comfortable space.

Also, check all leaves, trunk and the base for damages that might have happened during delivery. Report to the seller any problems before the next step.

Assembling the tree

Usually, a 12-foot artificial palm tree consists of two to four sections that can be stacked on top of each other.

Set up the tree starting with the bottom part and working your way up, joining each section to the next.

After you assemble it, spread and shape the leaves. For shipping, they will be folded flat, so you have to fan them out into position.

Securing the base for stability

Place the joined trunk into the base and tighten the screws supplied. If the base is still light, add some sand, stones, or a heavy pot insert before you take the tree to its permanent place.

Positioning the tree

Move the assembled tree to the position. After that, you can do all the other minor tweaks to the frond angles that will make the tree look full and natural.

Home Renovation and Setup Considerations

A 12-foot artificial palm tree is a design anchor, it could function as a room divider if needed.

When you’re in the middle of renovating or planning a refresh in a room, this is the kind of statement piece you create the rest of the room around.

Begin by considering how the tropical, natural aesthetic of the tree fits in with the other materials and finishes in the room.

The type of flooring and door you choose can affect how well your palm tree fits into the area.

If you ask us, natural wood floors or light stone tiles complement the natural vibe of a tall palm.

When it comes to doors, the modern sleek lines of tropical style work best with bright green tropical plants.

If you’re renovating your entryway or interior doors, consider an aluminium door installation. This is a great option because the minimal profile of aluminium doors will blend with the large palm without competing with it visually.

When it comes to a tree of this height, the ceiling and lighting also matter a lot more than most people think.

Lighting that’s recessed above the tree or just in front of its trunk can produce a dramatic up-light glow through the fronds. Having a skylight or large window nearby enhances the natural appearance of the palm tree, as the light the real palm would receive.

Ensuring Base Stability

A tree this height must have a stable base. If the base of the palm is not properly secured, then it can tip over and be a safety risk or damage your floor.

Always choose the heaviest and widest tree model base option available.

When the base does not seem heavy-duty enough, consider buying a heavy-duty planter base or adding ballast weight inside the decorative pot cover.

Some owners use rubber pads under the base or even attach the tree to a wall using a discreet thin bracket that sits behind the trunk for more security. It is particularly useful in busy places.

Aesthetic Placement in Tall Rooms

The location of your palm tree is just as essential as the palm tree itself. In a tall living room, often an empty corner close to a large window is the most ideal position.

The natural light floods the corner, escapes the tree without spilling over, and the corner placement gives the tree a backdrop without isolating it.

When used in hotel lobby, entry or commercial spaces, positioning the palm where it is visible from the entrance gives a distinct impression to the guest and sets up the tone of the space.

When coordinating the palm to other decor, consider weight and how it fits in with your overall look.

To appear in proportion, a tree of this size needs other sizable items nearby – a big sectional sofa, a large piece of wall art or an impactful floor lamp.

Styling Tips for Artificial Palm Trees

After your tree is up, you need the right accessories to style it.

For outdoors, you can opt for a choice of a large woven basket, a concrete planter or a wide ceramic pot.

This grounds the tree for shrubs in containers. Further, it makes it look more intentional than just being placed there.

You can also wrap warm LED string lights around the lower fronds to create a soft glow. This looks great in living rooms and outdoor patios.

Final Thoughts

One of the powerful design choices you can make to a spacious space is getting a 12-foot artificial palm tree.

When it is installed well, it will be the center of the room; something around which everything else revolves.

After you install it, this artificial tree won’t take much from you and will give you loads in return.

Feel free to experiment with its position until you find the most comfortable spot. Good design is not always easy.
