Best Magic Kingdom Rides in Disney World

Not all rides are created equal. Let me break down which ones deserve your attention based on wait times, experience quality, and guest reviews.

Top Tier Rides

These are the MUST-DO attractions at Magic Kingdom, the ones people talk about after their trip:

  • TRON Lightcycle / Run: The new coaster at Magic Kingdom and it is AMAZING. The ride vehicles are unlike anything else and the launch is thrilling.
  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train: This family coaster strikes that perfect balance between thrilling and accessible. The swinging cars make it more fun.
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: “The wildest ride in the wilderness” lives up to its name, a classic coaster with personality.
  • Space Mountain: The darkness makes this coaster feel faster than it is.
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: The ride that inspired the movies, not the other way around. A slow-moving boat ride with scenes that never get old.
  • Haunted Mansion: 999 happy haunts and room for one more. The special effects in this dark ride are mind-boggling.
  • Jungle Cruise: The jokes are corny, the animals are fake, and we LOVE it. Your skip makes or breaks this experience.
  • Peter Pan’s Flight: Simple but magical, flying over London never gets old.

Mid Tier Rides

These rides are worth doing if you have the time:

  • PeopleMover: A relaxing 10-minute tour of Tomorrowland from above.
  • Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin: Interactive target shooting while spinning through space.
  • “it’s a small world”: Yes, the song will get stuck in your head. Yes, you should ride it.
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: Cute scenes from the Hundred Acre Wood.
  • Tomorrowland Speedway: Kids love driving their own car, even if it’s on a track.

Low Tier Rides

These can be worth skipping if you’re short on time:

  • Magic Carpets of Aladdin: Basically Dumbo with a different theme. If lines are short, go for it.
  • Astro Orbiter: The views are nice but it’s not worth a long wait.
  • Prince Charming Regal Carrousel: It’s a carousel. You know what you’re getting.
  • Mad Tea Party: Unless you love spinning until you’re green.

Family and Kid Friendly Rides

Traveling with little ones then these rides have NO height restrictions and are perfect for the family:

  • “it’s a small world”
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
  • Peter Pan’s Flight
  • Prince Charming Regal Carrousel
  • Jungle Cruise
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Haunted Mansion
  • Mickey’s PhilharMagic
  • Dumbo the Flying Elephant
  • PeopleMover
  • Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress

Thrill Rides

For the adventure seekers in your group, these rides have height requirements and offer excitement:

  • TRON Lightcycle / Run
  • Space Mountain
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
  • Barnstormer

Always measure kids before your trip to avoid disappointment. The height requirements are enforced for safety.

Genie and Lightning Lane

Disney’s paid line-skipping service can save waiting. For Magic Kingdom, these are the rides to book first with Genie+:

Best rides to prioritize:

  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
  • TRON Lightcycle / Run
  • Peter Pan’s Flight
  • Jungle Cruise
  • Space Mountain
  • Big Thunder Mountain

If these are booked, good second choices:

  • Haunted Mansion
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

What are the 23 rides in the magic kingdom?

While Magic Kingdom has over 40 attractions total when you count shows and walkthroughs, there are 23 “rides” with moving vehicles:

  4. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
